Seventh seed Casper Ruud will face unseeded Jan-Lennard Struff at the China Open first round on Friday. Jan-Lennard Struff has won all three previous meetings with Ruud and will be confident of extending his advantage in this series. The latest victory came earlier this year in Monte-Carlo. With his dominance on hard courts, the German is likely to come out on top again. Struff has won 21 of the 28 matches he has played on hard courts. Casper Ruud will seek his first win against Struff here. The current world number nine’s record on hard courts this season suggests it will be easier said than done. Ruud has lost nine times in 16 outings on hard court this season. Hard court is the only surface this year that the Norwegian has lost more matches than he has won. Ruud arrives for this match after taking part in the Laver Cup where he defeated Tommy Paul 2-0. The victory was his 31st in 49 matches this season. Ruud has won one title so far and finished as runner-up at the French and Swedish Opens. The winner of this tie will play Tomas Martin Etcheverry or a yet-to-be-revealed qualifier next.
