Jan-Lennard Struff vs Aslan Karatsev Prediction & Betting Tips - ATP Mutua Madrid Open
by Daniel Ngulu | in Tennis Predictions
An unseeded player will be in the final of the Madrid Masters. Lucky loser Jan-Lennard Struff takes on qualifier Aslan Karatsev in the semi-final. The winner will take on either top seeded Carlos Alcaraz or Borna Coric (who is the 17th seed) in the final. These two players have already met once in this tournament. Karatsev beat Struff in the qualifying rounds but then Struff was reinstated as a lucky loser after player withdrawals. After that loss, Struff has made the most of his luck and got past the second round of this tournament for the first time. He's had a good season so far on clay and got to the last eight in Monte Carlo. His run to the last four in Madrid has seen him rise from 65th to 32nd in the live rankings, just below his career high of 29 three years ago. A win over Karatsev will take him up to 28th in the live list. The German has had to go to a final set in all but one of his main draw matches, the German has found a way to win but will be hopeful of some revenge here.
Aslan Karatsev has been more dominant and has lost only one set out of the seven matches that he has had to play to get to this stage. His previous best in this tournament was reaching the third round two years ago. The Russian has also boosted his world ranking immensely and is now up 70 places in the live ranking to number 51. Karatsev arrived in Madrid struggling, having won eight and losing as many. He is now up to 15 wins from 23 matches played with ten of his victories coming on clay. Karatsev is a three-time tour champion but has gone more than a year since he last won a semifinal tie and he will hope to change this here. His win over Struff in the qualifying rounds coupled with his superb form should have him confident of advancing to his second-ever Masters 1000 final. A first final at Caja Magica awaits the winner here, with defending champion and top seed Carlos Alcaraz or 17th seed Borna Coric to provide the opposition.
