Third seed Alex de Minaur will take on world number 47 Jakub Mensik in the second round in Rotterdam. The winner will then play Daniel Altmaier, Alexander Kovacevic, Arthur Fils or Constant Lestienne in the quarter-finals. Below is our prediction for this match.

Jakub Mensik is having quite the start to the season. The 19-year-old has won seven of his last 10 matches and earned two tour quarter-final finishes. He also managed a third-round appearance at the Australian Open.

Among the players that have fallen under his racket is world number five Casper Ruud. The Czech’s lively start has moved him to 44th in the live ranking, which is a career-high.

Mensik defeated Alexander Bublik in straight sets in the first round.

Alex de Minaur battled through three sets to get the better of Mensik when they first squared off. That was last October in Vienna. He will expect another intense matchup, especially with how his compatriot has started the season.

De Minaur is hoping to win this year’s Rotterdam edition after losing in the final last year. The world number eight lost to Jannik Sinner who isn’t defending his title this year.

He defeated former Rotterdam champion David Goffin by the loss of six games in the first round. He has now won eight of nine fixtures to start the year.
