Jakub Mensik has advanced to the third round in Melbourne for the first time. He will now seek to make it to the second week of competition for the first time at a major.

The Czech number three grabbed one of the biggest wins this week to advance to this round. Clawing his way from a set down, he defeated sixth seed Casper Ruud in four sets.

Mensik has now won six matches this season and has moved up to 47th in the live ranking.

Alejandro Davidovich Fokina is coming off one of the longest battles this season. The Spaniard’s second-round tie with Felix Auger-Aliassime lasted five hours and saw him secure a 3-2 victory.

It was the first time he had won a second-round tie in Melbourne. He will hope to have enough left to push for the fourth round.

Now with three wins in five outings this year, the 25-year-old is placed 67th in the live ranking.
