Jack Draper faces Borna Coric for a place in round two of the Italian Open. Whoever wins this match will be up against the second seed Daniil Medvedev in round two of this outdoor clay court tournament. Draper is 40th in the latest rankings list but up to 37th in the live list. He still has an outside chance of being seeded at Roland Garros but has had some tough draws in recent tournaments and it's not easy this week either. Hubert Hurkacz has twice beaten him on clay in Monte Carlo and in his last tournament in Madrid. Draper did get to the last eight in Munich though and will hope to make a winning debut in this Masters event. He's 33rd in the ATP Live Race and this is his first match against Coric.

Borna Coric needs a good run in this tournament because he's about to drop the points earned when reaching the last eight here in 2023. He's down to 69th in the live rankings but is not in the form he was this time last year. The Croatian hasn't got past the last 32 of a clay court tournament this year and was beaten in the second round in Madrid in his last event.
