The round of 16 in the 2023 ATP US Open sees unseeded Jack Draper taking on the eighth-seed Andrey Rublev. The winner of this matchup earns a trip to the quarter-final and a matchup with either Daniil Medvedev or Alex de Minaur. 25-year-old Andrey Rublev comes into this encounter after wins over Cazaux, Monfils and Rinderknech in the first, second and third rounds, respectively. The Russian has only lost two sets total in this tournament so far with his two most recent matches both finishing 3-1. It’s been a fairly strong year for Rublev who has tournament wins in Monte-Carlo and Bastad along with three runners-up finishes and a quarter-final finish at Wimbledon. His best work in 2023 has come on clay courts where he has won 79% of his outings. On hard court surfaces, Rublev has a 16 win, nine loss record (64%) this calendar year. 

Jack Draper is having a fine tournament as he looks to have fully recovered from another injury setback that he suffered in May. Draper made it past Albot, Hurkacz and Mmoh up to this point, the latter of which was the first match this tournament that he didn’t win in straight sets. All in all, the talented young Englishman has only lost one set in the 2023 US Open up to this point. He also has managed six wins and two losses since returning to action in the middle of August. Due to multiple injuries this season, Draper has fallen to 128th in the rankings but was ranked 38th at his all-time peak. This marks the first time that the 21-year-old has made it to the fourth round of a Grand Slam tournament. On the year, Draper has won 16 of his 25 total bouts, 13 of which have come on hard courts.
