The 2023 Men's European Volleyball Championships come to a climax with the final we all wanted to see. Hosts Italy take on Poland in what should be a thrilling final. Italy are the world champions and defending their European crown. Poland meanwhile are the top ranked team in the world and it's hard to pick a winner in this match. Italy are ranked third in the world and like their opponents have won all eight of their matches in this tournament. They only lost two sets in the pool stages, winning all five of their matches winning 402 points and losing 326. They have had wins over North Macedonia (only 47 points lost in a 3-0 win) and the Netherlands. The latter did see them lose the first set and they eventually won 3-2. In the semi-finals it wasn't so tense as they beat France 3-0, though 63 points were lost.

Poland were the tournament favorites when these European Championships began. The bookmakers can't choose between them and the Italians now we've reached the final and that's understandable. Poland are in their first European final since 2009 and that was the only year in which they have won this title. 2023 has already seen them win the Nations League, winning 13 of their 15 matches. Now comes the task of becoming European champions and they have won all of their matches so far. Pool C was won with only one set and 272 points being lost. That was the best defensive record in the pool stages. They also beat the Netherlands more comfortably than the Italians were to in the quarter finals. In the knockout stages, Poland have beaten Belgium, Serbia and in the last four, Slovenia after losing only their fourth set. They have recently lost to Italy but we believe Poland can edge their way to victory with a 1.5 set handicap start.
