A guaranteed spot on the podium awaits either France or Italy when they face off in the semi-final of the Men’s Volleyball competition at the Paris 2024 Olympics on Wednesday evening. The winner of this match will take on either the USA or Poland for the gold medal on August 10. Check out our match prediction below. 

After winning gold at the World Championship in 2022, Italy are now looking to add the Olympic gold to their cabinet and is the only team, along with the USA, that are yet to taste defeat in Paris. 

Gli Azzurri secured a spot in the last four of the tournament by beating Japan in a close-run quarter-final that ended 3-2 in their favour. In that match, they showed incredible resilience, battling back from two sets down and on the verge of defeat. 

With that result, Italy are now on a six-match winning streak and have only lost two of their last 10 matches in all competitions. However, it is worth noting that one of those defeats was against their upcoming opponents at the Nations League in June. 

Meanwhile, host nation France are still in the running to defend their Olympic title and how sweet it would be for them to do so in front of their adoring fans here in Paris. 

Les Survivants secured their semi-final spot with a win over Germany in the quarter-final, in a match that swayed back and forth right until the final point was scored. Three of the five sets in that match were decided by fewer than five points. 

The hosts’ only defeat in this competition came against Slovenia in their final group-stage match, and like their upcoming opponents, they have only lost two of their last 10 matches. 

France have won the last two matches between these sides but are the clear underdogs in this one.
