Italy vs Canada Prediction & Betting Tips - Davis Cup

Italy are up against Canada with the winners going into the Davis Cup final. The Italians may have been without Jannik Sinner and Matteo Berrettini but still beat the USA in the quarter finals. In the absence of those top players, Italy fielded Lorenzo Musetti and Lorenzo Sonego for their last eight match. Sonego gave them a 1-0 lead with a straight sets win over US Open semi-finalist Frances Tiafoe. The Americans fought back well to level the tie as Taylor Fritz defeated Lorenzo Musetti in straight sets. That meant for the first time this week we had a doubles decider.and the Italian team of Bolelli and Fognini beat Sock and Paul in straight sets to send Italy into the semi-finals. They face a tougher task as they attempt to reach the Davis Cup final for the first time since 1998.

That's because both of the Canadian singles players are ranked higher than the Italians. If the higher ranked players assert their superiority, then this tie won't need a doubles decider. Canada won the now-defunct ATP Cup this year with Felix Auger-Aliassime and Denis Shapovalov, both ranked in the top 18 at present. Last year those players didn't take part and Canada failed to reach the knockout stages. This year has been a different story though. Shapovalov didn't play in the group but Canada squeezed through and Auger-Aliassime had a famous win over Carlos Alcaraz  The quarter final against Germany might have been a different story if Alexander Zverev had been playing. Shapovalov lost in three sets to Jan-Lennard Struff but Auger-Aliassime (winner of three recent tournaments) kept Canada in the tournament wiht success over Oscar Otte. Shapovalov teamed up with the veteran Vasek Pospisil and they had to come from behind to defeat Krawietz and Putz. Canada can win this tie but Shapovalov probably needs to up his game a little bit to ensure that happens.
