After three incredible matches last weekend, The Six Nations returns with Round 2 action as defending champions France travel to the Aviva Stadium in Dublin to lock horns with Ireland on Saturday afternoon. The visitors made an uncharacteristically nervy start to the tournament last week against a resilient Italian squad that took the match down to the wire before a Matthieu Jaibert try got La Bleus over the line in the end. With that win, France has extended their stellar record over the last 18 months to 12 straight wins. The French have been the dominant side in this fixture in recent times, and a win in this match would mark their fourth successive win over Ireland, a record dating back to March 2019.
Ireland was arguably the pick of the teams in the opening weekend of this tournament, dominating their match from the first whistle. After shooting out the gates to a 14-0 lead within the first ten minutes of the match, the world’s number one ranked side went on to polish off an impressive display 34-10 by the final whistle, handing Wales their biggest home soil defeat in over 20 years. Since February 2021, Ireland has only lost two competitive matches, and both of those defeats came at the hands of this opponent, which will make a win for the men in green all the more sweet if they can pull it off in front of their passionate home fans.
