Top seed Iga Swiatek begins her grass court campaign on Monday against unseeded Tatjana Maria at the Bad Homburg Open. The winner of this first-round match will play either Jil Teichmann or Claire Liu, both qualifiers, in the second round. Iga Swiatek will hope to dominate on grass as he has done on the other two main surfaces this season. The world number one is yet to win a title on grass in her career. She made her career debut on the surface in 2019 and has so far compiled a record of nine wins and six losses. The Pole arrives to make her debut in Bad Homburg after successfully defending her Roland Garros crown. This was her third title of the year and she has also finished as runner-up twice. Swiatek has won 35 of the 41 matches she has played so far.

Tatjana Maria arrives to make her second appearance at Bad Homburg after finishing as runner-up in Gaiba in the challenger circuit. The veteran German will hope the momentum from that as well as the support of the home crowd, will spur her on here. She has won seven of the 10 matches she has played on grass in 2023. This has improved her record for the season to 28 wins and 18 losses. Maria has played three finals so far this year across all three levels and has won two titles. Her run in Gaiba has moved her up seven places in the live ranking to number 59.
