Iga Swiatek vs Petra Martić Prediction & Betting Tips - WTA Mutua Madrid Open
by Daniel Ngulu | in Tennis Predictions
A first-ever semifinal in Madrid beckons for top seed Iga Swiatek if she can win her last eight match against the 27th seed Petra Martic. This is the furthest that the two have ever been in the competition. The winner of this match faces either third seed Jessica Pegula or 12th seed Veronika Kudermetova in the last four. Swiatek has set a new personal record already in Madrid by advancing this far. The Pole is making her second appearance in this WTA 1000 tournament and in her debut back in 2021, ranked then outside the top 15 players in the world, she reached the third round. Two years later she returns as the number one ranked player in the WTA and is highly favoured to win this title. Swiatek has made it to the final in three of her previous five tournaments this season and has won two titles in Stuttgart and Dubai, the former in her debut on clay this season. She has carried that momentum in her start here where she has won her three matches by dropping just one set. Swiatek has the head-to-head advantage thanks to her win over Martic in the second round at Indian Wells in 2021. That was on a hard court though and this is an outdoor clay court tournament.
Petra Martic has equalled her best-ever result in Madrid by advancing to this round. She last made it to the quarterfinals back in 2019. Martic has also dropped one set out of the three matches she has played and this has propelled her up five places to number 28 in the live ranking. The former world number 14 has been up and down the world ranking this season and at one time was ranked out of the top 40. She has struggled with consistency and has won 13 and lost nine of the 22 matches that she has played so far. Five of those wins have come on clay however and she will hope to make it six on Wednesday. Martic’s highlight of the season remains to be her performance at the Linz Open where she made it all the way to the final.
