In terms of ranking points earned this year, Iga Swiatek and Ons Jabeur are the top two. Swiatek is clear at the top of that list and will go even further ahead if beating Ons Jabeur in the final of the Rome Masters. Swiatek is the defending champion but even in her sensational form is unlikely to win the final without losing a game as she did last year against Karolina Pliskova. A win for Swiatek will see her win her fifth consecutive title. It’s been another week of dominant form with no sets dropped. The semi-final saw her defeat third seeded Aryna Sabalenka for the loss of just four games.

Ons Jabeur will be a career high sixth in the new ranking list. A win over Swiatek would see her move up to fifth and it’d be her second title in as many weeks following her win in Madrid last week. Jabeur has had wins against Sorana Cirstea, Ajla Tomljanovic, Yulia Putintseva, fourth seeded Maria Sakkari and Daria Kasatkina to reach her second successive final. Both in the last eight and the semi-final, Jabeur had to go to three sets to get her win. Jabeur trails Swiatek 2-1 in previous meetings. The Tunisian won their first match three years ago but has lost the two that have followed. This is their first meeting on clay and it’s Swiatek who can get the win.
