Iga Swiatek vs Naomi Osaka Prediction & Betting Tips - WTA French Open
by Daniel Ngulu | in Tennis Predictions
Top seed Iga Swiatek's French Open title defence continues on Wednesday with a match against Naomi Osaka in the second round. This is their third career meeting and the winner will set up a third-round showdown with Marie Bouzkova or Jana Fett. Iga Swiatek is the two-time defending Roland Garros champion and is seeking a fourth title here. In her five appearances at this major, the Pole has never failed to qualify for the second week of competing. Swiatek, who is in red hot form, defeated the qualifier Leolia Jeanjean by the loss of just three games. The win extended her winning run to 13 matches. Swiatek has compiled a dominant 39-4 record this season and has suffered just one loss in 16 matches on clay. This dominance this year has already resulted in four Singles titles for the world number one. Swiatek defeated Osaka by the loss of just four games to win the Miami Open two seasons ago.
Naomi Osaka defeated Swiatek in straight sets in their first encounter. That was in Toronto in 2019. The former world number one is however not the same dominant player she was then. Osaka returned to the tour at the start of the year after an almost two-year hiatus due to injuries and motherhood. She has played 22 matches, winning 13 times with five of her wins coming in eight clay court appearances. The most recent of these wins was a three-set victory over Lucia Bronzetti that marked her return to Paris after a year away. Osaka is a four-time major champion but at the French Open, she hasn’t had much success and has never progressed past the third round. The almost two-year inactivity saw the 26-year-old drop in the world rankings and started the year outside the top 800 places. She is however up to 122nd in the live ranking after making a 12-place jump with her victory in round one.
