A top-10 battle is on the cards in Cincinnati when top-seed Iga Swiatek squares off with 10th-seed Marketa Vondrousova on Friday. The winner of this quarterfinal will play either seventh seed Cori Gauff or the qualifier Jasmine Paolini for a chance at the final. Iga Swiatek is set to play in yet another quarterfinal in 2023. She leads the way in quarterfinals appearances and it is all down to how dominant she has been. The Pole has won 52 of the 60 matches she has played thus far resulting in four tour titles. She had to dig deep though to win her last match against the unseeded Zheng Qinwen. The world number one was forced to come from a set down to win in two hours and 10 minutes. This was the 26th win for her in 31 outings on hard court and allowed her to set a new personal record here. Swiatek had never gone past the third round in Cincinnati.

Marketa Vondrousova also arrives for this match in exquisite form. She has won 12 of her last 13 matches which has allowed her to break into the top 10. She is currently ranked ninth in the live ranking after defeating Sloane Stephens in straight sets in the third round. The Czech number one is yet to drop a set in Cincinnati after two rounds of play. Vondrousova, against all odds, rose to win at Wimbledon and became the first unseeded player to do so in the Open Era. A former French Open finalist, Vondrousova has rode that momentum and has set a new personal record in Cincinnati. Before this season, the two-time tour champion had never advanced past the first round in her previous three appearances here. She will hope this form allows her to even out this series with Swiatek by getting her first win. Vondrousova has compiled a 36-11 record with 15 of those victories coming in 21 outings on hard court.
