It's not just Rafael Nadal and Novok Djokovic who keep reaching Rome Masters finals. Karolina Plskova is in the final in Rome for the third year in a row and takes on Iga Swiatek. Pliskova won this title in 2019 but last year's final didn't go well. The first set against Simona Halep was lost 6-0, Pliskova had treatment for leg and back pains and eventually retired when 2-1 down in the second set. She'll be hoping for a much better result this time around. Pliskova is the ninth seed and has lost two sets on her way to this final. The first came in a marathon quarter final against Jelena Ostapenko, the other in the last four against Petra Martic.

A run to this final is just what Iga Swiatek needed so close to her French Open defence. She has already won one tournament this year winning the Adelaide Classic. Her efforts in this tournament will take her to a career best 12th in the rankings but winning it will see her get into the top ten. That'd be a pleasant early birthday present as she turns 20 on May 31. This week has seen her beat Madison Keys and Barbora Krejcikova on her way to the quarter finals. Swiatek had an impressive win over fifth seeded Elina Svitolina and then beat Coco Gauff in straight sets in her final. She looks in the best form of this pair and can win the title.
