Iga Swiatek is the top seed for the 2021 Ostrava Open. The Pole takes on seventh seeded Elena Rybakina in the last eight, with the other seeds in this half of the draw being Maria Sakkari and Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova. It's an important week for Swiatek as the 20-year-old is up to fourth in the live rankings, her highest ever position. A place in the Tour Finals has nearly been confirmed so it's been a good year for Swiatek who has won two titles this year. The Pole was consistent in the Grand Slams with three fourth rounds and a last eight at Roland Garros. This week has seen her get a straight sets win over Yulia Putintsova.

Elena Rybakina began this week ranked a career high 16th and is in the last eight of a tournament for the first time since August. Her best recent performance was losing in the Olympics semi-final to eventual gold medalist Belinda Bencic. A Bronze medal looked likely but she gave away a set lead in losing to Elina Svitolina. Like her opponent, the best Rybakina has managed in the Grand Slams this year was a last eight at Roland Garros. The seventh seed beat Veronika Kudermetova in the first round for the loss of just four games. It was tougher in round two though with a three set win (middle set lost) over Magda Linette. Swiatek looks to be in the better form and can get the win here.
