Top seed Iga Swiatek will take on 11th seed Beatriz Haddad Maia in her next outing at the Madrid Open. They will square off in the quarter-finals with the winner playing Madison Keys or Ons Jabeur for a place in the final. Iga Swiatek has been in excellent form once again and has won all three of her matches here in straight sets. The most games she has dropped in a contest is five. In the last two matches, she has lost a combined three games. Swiatek, who finished as runner-up here last season, defeated Sara Srribes Tormo by the loss of one game in round four. This was the world number one’s 29th win in 33 matches this season. Her dominance has resulted in two titles, both WTA 1000 successes. Swiatek has won the last two matchups with Maia which were all played last season.

Beatriz Haddad Maia has taken hold of her season as the campaign has switched to clay. She has won five of seven matches on the surface and is yet to drop a set in Madrid. The Brazilian was on a losing record before switching to clay but has now improved to 13-11. She defeated Maria Sakkari by the loss of eight games to advance to the last eight. Maia is in her third season in Madrid and has already set a new personal record in the competition by progressing this far. Maia, who defeated Swiatek in their first encounter two seasons ago in Toronto, has moved up to 13th in the live ranking.
