Match 16 of the 2024 ICC T20 World Cup will see South Africa taking on Bangladesh at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium on Monday afternoon. South Africa currently lead the standings in Group D, while Bangladesh are second. The South Africans have made the perfect start to their T20 World Cup campaign and another victory on Monday will all but guarantee them a spot in the Super Eight barring a catastrophic turn of events. The Proteas took a commanding lead in the group after overcoming their bogey side, the Netherlands, on Saturday, by four wickets and with seven balls to spare. David Miller was the pick of the batsmen, scoring an unbeaten 59 runs in 51 balls, while Tristan Stubbs continued his solid form, notching up 33(37). With the ball, Ottniel Baartman, who is SA’s highest T20 wicket-taker this year put in another stellar performance, picking up a career-best of 4/11 in his four overs. The Proteas are undoubtedly the team to beat in this group and are unsurprisingly the favourites to win this match, according to the bookmakers. 

Meanwhile, many expected Bangladesh to be the main threat to the Proteas and Sri Lanka in this group, and so far, they have proven that to be the case. The Tigers got their T20 World Cup started in the best way possible, beating the Lions in a closely contested, low-scoring match on Saturday. Batting first, Sri Lanka posted another poor target of 124/9, and despite looking as though they may pull off the victory, Bangladesh dug in and reached the total with an over to spare. Towhid Hridoy top-scored for the Tigers with 40(20), while Liton Das added 36(38). Mustafizur Rahman did the early damage and ended with an impressive 3/17 but it was youngster Rishan Hossain that caught the eye, notching his career-best figures of 3/22 in four overs. While Bangladesh will be brimming with confidence, they now face an opponent that they have lost all eight of their previous T20Is against, including in each of the last two T20 World Cup tournaments.
