The blockbuster fixture in the 2024 T20 World Cup this Sunday will see arch-rivals India and Pakistan lock horns at the Nassau County International Stadium. India are currently in second place in Group A while Pakistan are third. The Men in Blue entered this competition as one of the favourites to lift the trophy and made a positive start, beating Ireland in their opening match. Bowling first, Arshdeep Singh continued his solid form from the IPL, knocking over both Irish openers cheaply. Hardik Pandya and Jasprit Bumrah then took 3/27 and 2/6 to bowl their opponents out for just 96 runs in 16 overs. India chased down the small target with more than seven overs to spare and for the loss of only two wickets. With that result, the Men in Blue are now on a six-match winning streak in T20 internationals and last lost a match in December last year. India have won nine of the last 12 T20 matches between these sides and are the favourites in this one. 

Meanwhile, Pakistan were the last team to get their tournament underway in Group A and their first match ended up being a historic one. Facing the host nation US, the Shaheens suffered a shock defeat in a match that went down to the Super Over. Batting first, Pakistan posted a defendable 159/7 with Babar Azam top-scoring with 44(43) and Shadab Khan adding 40(25). Mohammad Amir, Naseem Shah and Haris Rauf shared a wicket apiece. However, in the super over, the US posted 18/1 but the Shaheens only managed 13/1, losing by five runs. That has put the tournament hosts in a very strong position to qualify for the Super Eight, while Pakistan could find themselves four points adrift with three games to play if they lose this match.
