Match 13 in the ICC T20 World Cup will see Canada taking on Ireland at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium on Friday afternoon. Both these sides played and lost their first match of the competition, but Canada are in third place due to their better net run rate. The Maple Leafers faced tournament hosts United States in their tournament opener and while they did lose the match by seven wickets, there were plenty of positives for them to take from the performance. Batting first, the Canadians posted a very defendable 194/5, with Navneet Dhaliwal and Nicholas Kirton scoring 61(44) and 51(31), respectively. Unfortunately, they were unable to follow that up with a good bowling performance, as they managed to take just three wickets en route to defeat. With India and Pakistan rounding out the group, this is likely Canada’s best chance of securing a T20 World Cup victory, but they have been made clear underdogs by the bookmakers. 

Meanwhile, Ireland have made significant strides forward in recent years and are now up to 11th place according to the ICC’s Word T20 Rankings, only marginally behind Afghanistan. Leading up to the tournament, Ireland were considered the most likely to challenge Pakistan for a top-two finish in the group. The Green and Whites took on India in their first match of the competition and were no match for the Men in Blue, who cruised to an eight-wicket victory, chasing down a modest 97-run target with 7.1 overs to spare. Gareth Delany was the only player to score over 20 runs for Ireland with the bat, while the side only managed to knock over two wickets, with Benjamin White and Mark Adair taking one apiece. Still, the Green and Whites have a positive record of three victories in their last five T20 games in all competitions and will feel that this is a matchup they should win.
