Match 31 of 48 in the 2023 Cricket World Cup will see Pakistan taking on Bangladesh on Tuesday evening. The Men in Green are currently in sixth place with four points, while The Tigers are second-bottom and on two points. Pakistan made an excellent start to the 2023 CWC, winning their first two matches against Netherlands and Sri Lanka. Unfortunately, since then, they have struggled to find a good performance, losing to India, Australia, and Afghanistan in their next three. Pakistan’s most recent match ended with a disheartening defeat by a single wicket against South Africa in Chennai. On a challenging pitch, they managed to set a target of 271, but despite a good bowling performance, they were unable to overcome the Proteas, who went on to win the match with 16 balls to spare. The inconsistency in their batting performance and the letdowns by their bowling attack have been far too frequent in this competition. However, against a side that they have a very good record against, the bookmakers make them the favourites to win this one. 

Meanwhile, despite starting their campaign with a victory over Afghanistan, Bangladesh have faced huge setbacks, losing five consecutive matches.  In their most recent game at the Eden Gardens against the Netherlands, they were bowled out for a mere 142 while chasing a target of 230. That defeat dropped Bangladesh to ninth place on the table, with a dismal net run rate of -1.338. Only England have a worse net run rate in the competition as it stands. Although they have three remaining games in the tournament, rebounding from this low point seems unlikely. The Tigers’ batting lineup has struggled to find its rhythm. Despite high expectations from players such as Litton Das, Mushfiqur Rahim, and Shakib Al Hasan, they have been unable to deliver in crucial moments so far. In the history of the ODI World Cups, Pakistan and Bangladesh have crossed paths only twice. The Tigers emerged victorious in the 1999 World Cup encounter, while Pakistan secured the win in the 2019 edition.
