Netherlands Sri Lanka Predictions & Betting tips - ICC Men's Cricket World Cup

 by Sridhar |

After springing the biggest surprise of this World Cup by defeating South Africa, the Netherlands look to extend it against a struggling Sri Lanka in the World Cup. This match #19 will be played at the Ekana Stadium in Lucknow on Saturday. The Dutch are on two points ahead of this round and are eighth in the standings while the Lankans are bottom with no points. The Netherlands had their moments in matches against Pakistan and New Zealand but failed to capitalise, to start their tournament with two losses. The 81-run loss to Pakistan and the 99-run defeat to New Zealand doesn’t quite justify the effort they put in. True to their gritty nature, the Netherlands threw the tournament open with a stunning 38-run win over South African in Dharamsala for only their third-ever World Cup win. The other two victories came against Namibia and Scotland, so this was a special victory for the Orange.

Sri Lanka would currently take a win of any proportions, as they started the tournament with three straight defeats. They were swatted aside by 102 runs by South Africa in the first match before losing to Pakistan by six wickets in a high-scoring game. It was the five-wicket defeat to Australia that would rankle them as the Lankans had their moments with the bat, but failed to motor along. They are once again set to be without their regular Dasun Shanaka which puts the burden on their best batter Kusal Mendis to double up on leading the team. It is their faltering bowling unit that is struggling to lift them from the bottom as every bowler has conceded more than six runs per over. Only Dilshan Madushanka has taken more than two wickets in the tournament, so even on the effectivity scale, they are lacking direction.

Our Netherlands Sri Lanka - ICC Men's Cricket World Cup prediction

This is a tricky match for Sri Lanka and by no means a walkover, especially as the Netherlands are on a high after that monumental win over South Africa. They could be lining up another big scalp, with the Lankans struggling to find the right level of consistency. Despite those problems, what has worked for Sri Lanka is their opening pair which has been amongst the runs consistently. They could once again do the job with a good start and that’s why our prediction for the Netherlands vs Sri Lanka ODI World Cup is for Sri Lanka to post the highest opening partnership.
