The 2023 Cricket World Cup final has arrived, and on Sunday, November 19, we will see India taking on Australia at the iconic Narendra Modi Stadium in Gujarat. India ended the group stage at the top of the standings, while Australia finished third. The host nation have been incredible in this competition. They came through the group stage with nine consecutive wins and were the only side to post a perfect record with 18 points. The Men in Blue then claimed their tenth consecutive victory in midweek when they overcame New Zealand by 70 runs in the semi-final. Virat Kohli earned a special milestone in that match as he surpassed Sachin Tendulkar to become the first batsman to score 50 ODI centuries. The former captain is also the highest run-scorer in the competition, with 711 runs in 10 innings at an average of 101.57. Mohammed Shami was instrumental with the ball in hand in that match, claiming a whopping seven wickets to take the lead in the leading wicket-takers race. The hosts have won three of their last five ODI’s against this opponent and are the odds-on favourites to win this one as well. 

However, you can never write off the Australians in a World Cup competition. The men from down under suffered a poor start to their 2023 CWC campaign after losing their first two matches against this opponent and South Africa. But, since then, they have been flawless and come into this match, having won each of their last eight in a row. Like their opponents, The Baggy Greens were in semi-final action in midweek, when they overcame the Proteas in a tense encounter. The South Africans set them a target of 213, and despite a whole-hearted effort by the side from Africa, Pat Cummins and Mitchell Starc got their team over the line with three wickets to spare. David Warner and Mitchell Marsh have been the main contributors with the bat for the Aussies. Warner has scored 528 runs in 10 innings and Marsh has notched up 426 in nine. Adam Zampa was the leading wicket-taker in the competition for a substantial period but is now second, one wicket behind India’s Mohammed Shami. These sides last met in an ODI World Cup final in 2003, which Australia won, but can they claim their sixth title on enemy territory in this one?
