England Afghanistan Predictions & Betting tips - ICC Men's Cricket World Cup

 by Sridhar |

England will look to make it a second win in a row as they come up against Afghanistan, looking for their first win in the ICC ODI World Cup 2023. This match #13 will be played at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi on Sunday with England fifth on two points and Afghanistan bottom on zero points. England started with a nine-wicket thrashing at the hands of New Zealand that was a rude awakening for the defending champions. They immediately rebounded with a 137-run win over Bangladesh. It was Dawid Malan’s century that put the focus back on England’s campaign. Joe Root’s presence in the middle-order gives them more solidity as his twin fifties have been the bedrock of England’s two games so far. With the ball, Reece Topley announced himself with a four-wicket haul against Bangladesh, but otherwise they are still looking to get into rhythm.

Afghanistan are rock-bottom of the points table after two heavy defeats to start their campaign. They were beaten by six wickets by Bangladesh and then were taken to the cleaners by India in an eight-wicket loss at this venue. The loss to India came with 15 overs remaining, which also hampered their net run rate. Even otherwise, Afghanistan seem to be struggling in the World Cups as they have now lost 14 matches in a row in these competitions. Only two batters scored individual fifties so far while the bowlers have been listless, to say the least. For them to win against England would need a huge lift and pragmatically it looks like reducing the losing margin would be their target now.

Our England Afghanistan - ICC Men's Cricket World Cup prediction

England received a rude awakening at the hands of New Zealand in their first match but have since rebounded with a classic win against Bangladesh. It was their opening pair that led the charge and could once again do the job against Afghanistan. The Afghans haven’t yet cracked the code in the World Cups and may struggle to do so against the defending champions. The win market is reflective of this as the odds on an England win are very low. We are instead putting our recommendation in the opening partnership. Our recommendation for England vs Afghanistan is for England to post the highest opening partnership.
