An upbeat Bangladesh will look to surprise England in the second match for the teams in the ODI World Cup. This match will be played at the HPCA Stadium in Dharamsala in the early morning hours of Tuesday. Bangladesh defeated Afghanistan by six wickets in their first match of the tournament, at this very same venue. Bowling first, they restricted Afghanistan to 156 all out in 37.2 overs. It was the spin duo of Shakib Al Hasan and Mehidy Hasan Miraz who did most of the damage by taking three wickets each. There were two wickets for Shoriful Islam too as Bangladesh took control of the game from 112 for 2 in 24.3 overs. The chase was anchored by Najmul Shanto’s unbeaten 59 and Mehidy Hasan’s 57. The duo added 97 runs for the third wicket to take the side to a win within 35 overs.

England endured a tough outing in their opening match of the tournament, beaten by New Zealand by nine wickets. More than the loss, the manner of the defeat rankled the defending champions as they were second-best in all departments. On a wicket where they needed to score at least 320, England faltered at different times to end with 282 for 9. It was Joe Root’s 77 that anchored their innings but Jos Buttler’s dismissal for 43 in the 34th over changed the game for England. Their bowling performance was ambushed as centuries for Devon Conway and Rachin Ravindra gave them a hiding. None of the bowlers could show any control as England lost the plot. Although two losses won’t rule them out of the reckoning, England won’t be excited at the prospect of starting the tournament with two defeats.
