Hubert Hurkacz has made smooth progress so far in this grass court Halle Open. The fifth seed takes on unseeded Marcos Giron for a place in the semi-finals. For the winner, there's a match against either second seed Alexander Zverev or unseeded Arthur FIls. Hurkacz began this tournament ranked eighth in the world but is up a place in the live rankings and 12th in the ATP Race. Reaching the last four in Halle will see him go above Novak Djokovic into 11th in the latter of those rankings. This is his first grass court tournament of the year and he is a former Halle Open champion. That title was won in 2022, a year after he got to the semi-finals at Wimbledon. The Pole has had two straight sets wins to reach the last eight, Victories have come against unseeded Flavio Cobolli and qualifier James Duckworth. No sets may have been lost but he has had to play two tie-breaks.

There's been one previous meeting between these two players and it was a relevant one. They met in the second round at Wimbledon three years ago with Hurkacz winning in straight sets, losing nine games in the three sets. Giron is currently 46th in the live rankings, a cllimb of seven places this week. The American has not had an easy route to this quarter-final. Round one saw him beat fifth-seeded Andrey Rublev in straight sets. He then beat unseeded Matteo Berrettini (finalist in Stuttgart last week) and beat him in three sets after losing the first. Giron also played in Stuttgart last week, beating Andy Murray but then losing to eventual champion Jack Draper. He's attempting to get into his first quarter-final in Halle after also reaching the last eight in 2021. We tip Hurkacz to win this match.
