Tenth seed Hubert Hurkacz begins his Monte Carlo Masters campaign against unseeded Jack Draper. A second round match against either Jiri Lehecka or a qualifier is up next for the winner. This outdoor clay court tournament is a Masters 1000 event so lots of ranking points are up for grabs this week. Hurkacz is the world number nine in the live list and 11th in the ATP Race. He’s had a good hard court season with one semifinal and two last eight appearances. His clay court season began well for him as he won the title in Estoril on Sunday. He has had success on this surface with the fourth round reached at Roland Garros two years ago. His best in Monte Carlo is getting to the last eight in 2022.

Jack Draper is at a career high 39th in the live rankings. He’ll be hoping to be able to push himself into the top 32 and be seeded at Roland Garros. The British player is 29th in the Live Race but his form on clay is nowhere near as his hard court results. Draper has reached one final and a semifinal on that surface this year. His form has dipped in recent weeks though with three of his last four matches being lost. On clay, he’s only had one appearance at Roland Garros and lost in the first round. The past two years have seen him win five matches on clay but lose the same number. We tip Hurkacz to win through to round two.
