Hubert Hurkacz is the only top ten seed in the last eight of the Cincinnati Masters. The fifth seed faces unseeded Frances Tiafoe in this hard court tournament. Who will make it through to the last four? Read our match prediction.
The winner of this match will play either 15th seed Hiolger Rune or unseeded Jack Draper. Hurkacz is the favorite to progress but he's had a tough time so far in Cincinnati. His opening match saw him have to come from behind to beat qualifier Yoshihito Nishioka.
Friday saw him at least win the first set against Flavio Cobolli but he lost the second. Then for the second consecutive match he won the final set for the loss of only one game. The world number seven is up to 12th in the Live ATP Race.
A win over Tiafoe will take him up to ninth in the Race and boost his chances of making it into the lucrative end-of-season ATP Tour Finals. Hurkacz is in the last eight of a tounament for the third time in four events. Only once has he reached a hard court semi-final this year and that was indoor in Maseille.
This is his seventh match (all on hard courts) against Tiafoe and they are level at 3-3. It's only the fourth match since 2019 and the first of this year. Hurkacz had won three in a row before Tiafoe beat him in the Laver Cup last year.
Frances Tiafoe is 27th in the latest rankings and up a place in the live list and 31st in the ATP Race. The American is strong on hard courts and in recent weeks has reached the last eight in Atlanta and the Washington semi-finals.
This week has seen him beat Alejandro Davidovich Fokina and 14th seed Lorenzo Musetti in straight sets. It was tougher in Friday's third round match against Jiri Lehecka. He won the first set but dropped the second on a tie-break.
Another one was needed to decide the final set with Tiafoe coming out on top. Another close match looks likely here and we go for over 22.5 games to be played.
