Fifth-seeded Hubert Hurkacz begins his Halle Open campaign against unseeded Flavio Cobolli. Next up for the winner in this grass court tournament is a match against either wild card Joao Fonseca or a qualifier. Hurkacz is ninth in the live rankings and this is his first grass court tournament of the year. It's a surface that he has had success on in the past. In 2021 he reached the semi-finals and last year made it to the fourth round. The Pole has fond memories of this tournament having won it in 2022. He's won one tournament this year, that was the clay court event held in Estoril, Portugal.

Flavio Cobolli is at  a career-high 49th in the live rankings and this is his second grass court tournament of the year. He was beaten in his first match of the BOSS Open in Stuttgart, losing in straight sets to Jan-Lennard Struff. The Italian does not have a great record on grass. He's played Wimbledon twice and on both occasions lost in the first qualifying round. This is only his fourth match on this surface and he's still waiting for his first win. The 22-year-old is 41st in the Live ATP Race with two quarter-finals and a semi-final reached this year. Those were on  hard and clay courts though. We tip Hurkacz to win this match in straight sets.
