The unseeded Hugo Gaston will play wildcard Omar Jasika in the first round of the 2025 Australian Open. Their first career meeting will see the winner play Jiri Lehecka or Li Tu for a place in the third round. Below is our prediction for this match.

Hugo Gaston has lost both his matches this season. He was defeated in Canberra in the Challenger circuit and then in Adelaide.

The Frenchman isn’t a strong hardcourt player and has now lost eight straight matches on the surface, going back to last season. Gaston, who has lost twice in the opening round in his three Melbourne appearances, has dropped to 81st in the live ranking.

Omar Jasika also does not have a pleasing record when competing at the Australian Open. The Australian is making his fourth appearance at this major and only once has he claimed a main draw victory.

That was almost 10 years ago, in 2016. A two-time challenger champion, Jasika is also yet to win this season.

He made his first appearance of the campaign in Adelaide qualifying and was unfortunately forced to retire in his first match.
