Hugo Gaston and Daniel Altmaier, both unseeded, will meet in the first round of the 2024 Generali Open. This will be their first-ever meeting and we have the stats ahead of it and a prediction.

Gaston is coming off a second-round exit in Hamburg. He put up a brave fight in his last outing against multiple Hamburg champion Alexander Zverev. The Frenchman forced through a decider after taking the first set and should be boosted by his performance despite defeat.

Altmaier’s recent struggles shed light on the sort of season he is having. He has a losing record, after suffering 23 losses in 42 outings.

A majority of these defeats were registered on clay. The 25-year-old, who lost nine times in the first round at tour level, has put up a 13-16 record on clay. He is currently placed 71st in the live ranking.
