Houston Astros vs New York Yankees Prediction & Betting Tips - MLB
by Joseph King | in Baseball Predictions
The New York Yankees will look to break their hoodoo against the Houston Astros when the two teams meet up yet again in the playoffs for game one of the ALCS at Minute Maid Park. This is the fourth matchup between the two teams in the playoffs since 2015, with the Astros sending the Yankees packing on all three previous occasions. Houston has a massive rest advantage here after dispatching of the Mariners in only three games in the first round, meaning the last time the Astros took the field was October 15th. The Yankees, on the other hand, had to deal with a full five game series to get past the Guardians 3-2 which included two rain delays. New York comes into this game on a back-to-back having just played yesterday.Limited Offer. Currently at DraftKings

Houston Astros - New York Yankees: Form Analysis
The Yankees were forced to battle back from a 2-1 deficit against Cleveland in the previous round but should come into this game in high spirits after the series turnaround. Their form has been a bit up-and-down as they have only won five of their last 10 games dating back to the regular season. The Astros enter this series as the in-form side and have won their last five matches on the bounce. Houston finished the regular season with the AL’s best record at 106-56 while the Yankees were the AL’s second best side at 99-63. New York will have to overcome its substandard away form which has seen the Bronx Bombers put up a record of only 43-39.

Houston Astros & New York Yankees Squad Analysis
Taking the mound for the Astros is ace Justin Verlander who finished the regular season with an 18-4 record and an absurd 1.75 ERA. The two-time Cy Young award winner only faced off once against the Yankees in the regular season, going seven innings with only one earned run. However, Verlander only managed three strikeouts in that game as well as giving up a home run, meaning the Yankees lineup was getting their bats on the ball. On the other side, Jameson Taillon gets the nod for New York and posted a 14-5 record with a 3.91 ERA in the regular season. The 30-year-old was inconsistent throughout the year and is coming into this one having given up 13 earned runs in his last five starts - totaling 31 innings of work.
Houston Astros - New York Yankees Key Points
- Taillon got rocked in his sole start against the Astros in the regular season, giving up 10 hits, six earned runs and two home runs in five innings pitched.
- The Yankees were unlucky not to put up more runs on Verlander when they faced off back in June. Three strikeouts and a home run allowed indicates that New York was unfortunate with pop ups and ground outs that could have been hits on another day.
- Seven of Taillon’s last eight starts for New York have seen at least seven total runs scored.
- Verlander struggled with his control in his last outing, allowing the Mariners 10 hits and giving up six earned runs in just four innings of work.

Our Houston Astros vs New York Yankees Prediction
We’re going to back over 7 runs as our bet for this game. We should see a high scoring game one in this ALCS matchup, especially with the short rest and injuries that the Yankees bullpen is suffering with. Taillon has struggled at times this season and does not come into this game in good form after giving up three hits and two earned runs without a single out in his relief appearance in the ALDS game 2 loss to Cleveland. Look for the Yankees bats to stay hot here against a potentially teetering Verlander after a really bad outing in his last start against Seattle.
