Houston Astros vs New York Yankees Prediction & Betting Tips - MLB
by Joseph King | in MLB Predictions
The top two teams in the MLB American League face off for the first game of a scheduled doubleheader when the New York Yankees take on the Houston Astros at Minute Maid Park. The season resumes on Thursday after the festivities of the All-Star game and we’re treated to quite the matchup to welcome us back with the 64-28 Yankees and the 59-32 Astros giving us a potential preview of a playoff matchup later this year. New York holds a comfortable 13 game lead over the second-place Rays in the AL East while the Astros lead the Seattle Mariners by nine games in the AL West. The Yankees pick back up after back-to-back blowout victories over their bitter rivals Boston by a combined score of 27-3 and will look to keep the momentum going in this one. The Astros had a mixed run of results leading up to the All-Star game, winning a three-game series ove the Angels 2-1 before dropping two out of three to the A’s.
Neither team has named a starter for this game which makes it a bit tricky to break down. Luis Severino is on the 15 day injured list and Nestor Cortes pitched in the All-Star game meaning either Jordan Montgomery or Jameson Taillon are the two most likely starters for the Yankees. Both pitchers have been solid this season, Montgomery with a 3-2 record and 3.26 ERA while Jameson Taillon has been racking up the wins with his 10-2 record and 3.86 ERA. For the ‘Stros, Cristian Javier is the most likely candidate to take the mound. The 25-year-old righty is 6-5 on the year and has an ERA of 3.22. Javier only made it through three and two thirds innings in his last outing, giving up three earned runs on five hits and three walks in what was ultimately a 7-1 loss for Houston.
