15th seed Holger Rune has a tricky looking US Open first round match against unseeded Brandon Nakashima. Next up for the winner is either Pablo Carreno Busta or Arthur Cazaux. Here's our match prediction.

Holger Rune is 15th in the live rankings and has shown some good recent form on hard courts, the surface for this Grand Slam. He recently made it to the last four of the Cincinnati Masters tournament.

He lost in that semi-final but that added to a good record on this surface in 2024. He reached the final in Brisbane and made it to two other hard court semi-finals. He's played Nakashima twice and lost both matches.

One was in the NextGen Finals where each set was first to four games not six. The American is 50th in the live rankings and has failed to get past the last 16 of his previous seven tournaments.

His most recent performance saw him lose to Andrey Rublev in Cincinnati, a week after also being beaten by him in Montreal. He's yet to reach an ATP Tour hard court quarter-final this year with most of his successes coming on the Challenger Tour.
