Holger Rune vs Botic Van De Zandschulp Prediction & Betting Tips - ATP Munich Open
by Steve Ashfield | in Tennis Predictions
It's been a week of surprises in the BMW Open in Munich. None of the top six seeds even reached the semi-finals. Botic van de Zandschlup is the eight seed and takes on wild card Holger Rune in the final. The eighth seed is in his first ever ATP Tour final as it is for his opponent. He's won seven titles at lower levels, including three on clay but none since 2019. The Dutch player began this week ranked 40th in the world, 17 places higher than at the start of the year. This time last year he was down at 153 but had a successful 2021 including reaching the US Open quarter finals. He's 31st in the live rankings and will move up to 30th if winning this final. 2022 has seen him reach two quarter finals before this tournament. The most recent of those last eight appearances was on clay in Marrakech. This week has seen him beat Brandon Nakashima, Egor Gerasimov and second seeded Casper Ruud, all in straight sets. In his semi-final, the Dutchman defeated seventh seed Miomir Kecmanovic but had to come from behind after losing the first set.
Holger Rune began this tournament ranked 70th but is 20 places higher in the live rankings. He'll be 44th in the new list if winning this BMW Open title. Rune only turned 19 last Friday and is third on the Next Gen ranking list. He began this year in 103rd position and has made good progress so far in the European clay court season. The Dane won a Challenger Tour event in Sanremo making it five clay titles on that tour in the past year. He then reached the last 32 in the Monte Carlo Masters, beating Aslan Karatsev before losing to Casper Ruud. Last week saw him get to the last 16 in Belgrade. His good form has continued in Munich with a win over Jiri Lehecka before knocking out the top seeded Alexander Zverev for the loss of only five games. Rune followed that with wins over Emil Ruusuuvori (only two games lost) and Oscar Otte. Back him to end a great week with his first ATP Tour title.
