Holger Rune vs Botic Van De Zandschulp Prediction & Betting Tips - ATP Munich Open
by Devesh Jaganath | in Tennis Predictions
The ATP Munich final of 2023 will see Holger Rune battle Botic Van De Zandschulp for the BMW Open title when the pair face off on Sunday afternoon. Holger Rune has improved consistently this year and has bounced back incredibly from his narrow defeat to Andrey Rublev in last week's Monte Carlo Masters final. Rune is the reigning champion here in Munich, and if he were to safely defend his title, it would be his first piece of silverware since that incredible final in Paris in October last year, where he beat Novak Djokovic in a fascinating three sets. Still only 19 years of age, the Dane has cemented his spot in the top 10 rankings and has relished the clay surface over the last couple of years, with a record of 41-17 in 2021, 21-11 last year, and 6-1 this season. This will be Rune’s highest-ranked opponent in this tournament, having beaten Yannick Hanfmann, Cristian Garin, and Christopher O’Connell en route to the final. The Dutchman is yet to drop a set in this tournament and will be confident that he can successfully defend his crown in this one.
Ranked 29th in the world, Van De Zandschulp will be chomping at the bit to rectify last year’s final, where he retired in the first set against this opponent. This year, the Dutchman has been fairly consistent in his performances and has managed a decent overall record of 13-9. Van De Zandschulp’s clay court form in recent times reads as 4-2, which includes a first-round knockout in Marrakech and a second-round exit in Monte Carlo ahead of this tournament. Back at one of his favoured venues, the Dutchman has looked very good this week, dispatching Aslan Karatsev and Marcos Giron in the earlier rounds, followed by potentially one of his best performances of the year to beat second-seeded Taylor Fritz in the semi-final (6-4 7-6). Going up against an in-form opponent and the defending champion here, Van De Zandschulp will need to be at his absolute best to stand a chance of taking the trophy away from Rune.

Our Holger Rune vs Botic Van De Zandschulp Prediction
Rune has looked excellent since making his first appearance of the year on this surface in Monaco a week ago and is strongly fancied to retain his title here on most bookmakers’ odds. Van De Zandschulp, meanwhile, isn’t out of this by a long shot and will look back to the previous final, which he was leading, before being forced to retire, and will feel that he was certainly in with a chance. We could see a three-set thriller in this one, and it looks well worth a punt at odds of 2.5 available. However, we opt for the safer option as our main bet, which is for the Dane to successfully defend his title. Our Holger Runs v Botic Van De Zandschulp prediction is a win for Holger Rune.
