Britain's Heather Watson faces Olga Danilovic in the Roland Garros first qualifying round. Danilovic is the 27th seed in qualifying so it's a tough task for world number 178 Watson. The British player has played in the first round for the past three years but has never got past that stage. Her best at Roland Garros is reaching the second round on six occasions but she'll do well to get out of qualifying in 2023. Watson has made it to the final of a couple of ITF tournaments this year but neither were on clay. Three of her five matches played on this surface in 2023 have been lost. Of those three defeats, two came against players ranked outside the top 250 at the time.

Olga Danilovic begins this Grand Slam qualifying event ranked 104th. A target for her will be equalling or surpassing her career high position of 96th achieved five years ago. The 22-year-old had three failed attempts to reach the Roland Garros main draw before doing so last year. The Serb made it through to the second round but she's yet to reach the third round of a Grand Slam event. Danilovic comes into this tournament fresh from winning the ITF clay court tournament in Madrid. That's far better form than her opponent has shown and we tip her to win this in straight sets.
