The final match in week five of the 2024 Currie Cup will see Griquas taking on the Golden Lions on Sunday afternoon. The hosts are currently seventh in the group standings while the visitors are fourth. Check out our match prediction below. 

Griquas have got off to a slow start this season, currently on seven points after the first four matches, including one win, three losses and three bonus points. That sole victory came against the Sharks in week two. 

Last week, the men from Kimberly made the trip to Mpumalanga to face the attacking Pumas and were no match for last season’s runners-up, losing the matchup 66-26, marking their heaviest loss of the competition this season. 

Over their last 10 Currie Cup matches, Griquas have a record of four wins, one draw and five losses. However, they did edge the Lions to victory last season 25-21 at this venue.

Meanwhile, the Lions made a very promising start to their 2024 Currie Cup campaign as they headed to Durban in week one and pipped the Sharks to victory 26-25. 

An even more impressive performance followed in week two when they trounced the Pumas by a whopping 75-21 at the Mbombela Stadium before beating their upcoming opponent 25-13 in week three. 

Despite losing at home last week, the Lions have shown they are genuine contenders for the top four spots this season and are the bookmakers’ clear favourite in this match.
