Match 45 of the 2024 Indian Premier League will see the Gujarat Titans playing host to the Royal Challengers Bangalore on Sunday afternoon. The hosts are currently in seventh place, while the visitors are at the bottom of the table. After reaching the playoffs in their first two IPL seasons, the Gujarat Titans are at risk of seeing that streak brought to an end this year unless they can improve their performances over the last five games in the group stage. They head into this match after coming up four runs short when chasing down 224/4 against the Delhi Capitals in midweek. Sai Sudharsan and David Miller scored 65(39) and 55(23), while Sandeep Warrier took 3/15 in the loss. Sudharsan is now fourth in the orange cap standings. That result left them on eight points after nine games, still only two points off the top four, though they have played a game more than most of the sides above them. This is the first of a double-header between these teams, and GT are the favorurites for this home game. 

Meanwhile, the Royal Challengers Bangalore head into this match following a 35-run victory over the Sunrisers Hyderabad. However, the question is whether it’s too little too late for the men from Banglore as that victory came after six consecutive defeats and was not enough to lift them off the bottom of the table due to their -0.721 net run rate. Nevertheless, they are still mathematically able to reach the playoffs, and that victory would have been huge for their morale. Virat Kohli notched up another half century but it was Rajat Patidar that caught the eye, blasting 50 runs in just 20 balls to help his side to 206/7. Kohli moved further ahead atop the orange cap standings, now on 430 runs in nine innings, 81 runs ahead of CSK’s Ruturaj Gaikwad in second. Every game is a must-win for RCB from here on, though they have lost their last two matches against this opponent.
