Qualifier Grigor Dimitrov hopes to maintain his excellent start at the Queen’s Club Championship on Thursday against eighth seed Francisco Cerundolo. The two will meet in the second round with the winner next playing either Carlos Alcaraz or Jiri Lehecka. Dimitrov is a former champion here; that was however nine years ago. Looking at how he has started this year’s tournament, he will fancy his chances of winning again. Dimitrov started the tournament in the qualifying rounds and has now won three matches without dropping a set. He defeated Emil Ruusuvuori to advance to this round. This was his 21st win in 32 matches this year and moved him up two places to 24th in the live ranking.

Francisco Cerundolo is currently ranked 19th in the live ranking. This is the highest that he has been ranked in his career. The Argentine battled to defeat the qualifier, Tommy Paul in three sets. That match lasted two hours and 27 minutes. This was an hour more than the time it took Dimitrov to win his first-round fixture. Cerundolo has had a rocky campaign so far. He has managed a record of 23 wins and 15 losses. The highlight of his year has been making the final of the Lyon Open, back in May. On grass, he hasn’t had the best of times. He made his debut on the surface in 2021 and since then he has played eight matches, winning four times.
