Grigor Dimitrov vs Daniel Evans Prediction & Betting Tips - ATP Washington Citi Open
by Steve Ashfield | in Tennis Predictions
Fifth seeded Grigor Dimitrov bids to reach the final of the Mubadala Citi DC Open in Washington. He takes on the ninth seeded Dan Evans with the winner facing either top seed Taylor Fritz or the 12th seeded Tallon Griekspoor. Dimtrov is likely to be the fresher player in his semi-final. That's because he didn't have to go on court to win his match in the last eight. His scheduled opponent Ugo Humbert pulled out with an injury. Dimitrov started this outdoor hard court tournament ranked 20th and this is his first event since losing in the last 16 at Wimbledon. His best performances on a hard court this year have included a semi-final in Rotterdam and reaching the last eight in Marseille. His one final of the year was in the Geneva clay court tournament where he lost to Nicolas Jarry. This week in Washington has seen him beat Michael McDonald and Emil Ruusuvouri, both in straight sets. He's now up to 17th in the Live ATP Race. He leads Evans 3-2 in previous meetings and is 2-1 up in matches played on an outdoor hard court. Two of his last three matches against Evans have been won.
Dan Evans had two matches to play on Friday..Firstly he defeated unseeded Alexander Shevchenko in straight sets and then caused an upset by knocking out second seeded Frances Tiafoe again without losing a set. It's a welcome return to form for the British number two. Before this tournament his record for 2023 was 8-18 and he'd slipped to number 30 in the rankings. He's up to 25th in the live rankings and a win over Dimitrov will see him climb another three positions. His poor year is reflected by his position in the Live ATP Race based on points earned this year. At the start of this tournament he was in 89th place. His run to the last four in Washington has moved him up to 56th. This is the first time past the last 32 of a hard court event for Evans this year. He made a shaky start in Washington and had to come from a set down to get past Gregoir Barrere in his first match. Evans only won two games in the first set but then dropped just three in the next two. We go for Dimitrov to get the win and reach the final.
