22nd seeded Alexander Zverev faces the 28th seed Grigor Dimitrov in the Roland Garros fourth round. The winner of this match will take on either the 27th seed Yoshihito Nishioka or unseeded Tomas Martin Etcheverry in the quarter finals. Zverev began this tournament ranked 27th but is down to 43rd in the live rankings. That's because he's defending the points earned when reaching the last four at Roland Garros in 2022. That of course was the match against Novak Djokovic that he had to retire injured in. He has a good record at Roland Garros and that was the second successive year in which he'd reached the last four. A win here will take him into his fifth French Open quarter final. The German has struggled to regain top form since making his comeback from that injury. This season on clay began with four successive last 16 losses. He then got to the quarter finals in Geneva, though no top 50 ranked players were beaten. This year at Roland Garros he has only lost one set so far in three matches. That was in the last round where he lost the first to the 12th seed but fought back to win the next three.

Grigor Dimitrov is bidding to reach the last eight at Roland Garros for the first time. He's been playing here since 2011 but this is only his second fourth round appearance. The Bulgarian started this Grand Slam ranked 29th but has gone up four places in the live rankings. He can move up to 22nd if getting a win over Zverev. The 32-year-old reached only one last 16 in his first four clay court tournaments of the year. He showed improved form in Geneva where he lost in the final to Nicolas Jarry but beat Taylor Fritz earlier in the tournament. His better form has continued at Roland Garros with three straight sets victories. This is his first match against a seeded opponent.
