Grigor Dimitrov is the fifth seed for the Washington Open. He takes on unseeded Adrian Mannarino in round two with the winner seeded to face Sebastian Korda in the third round. Dimitrov is the world number 19 and this is his first tournament since losing in the first round at Wimbledon. He's in 27th place in the ATP Race that is based on ranking points earned this year. Most of those points have come in clay court tournaments, including a run to the last four in Monte Carlo. He did get to the last eight at Indian Wells (hard court) and a semi-final in Melbourne.

Adrian Mannarino began this week ranked 67th and rose 11 places in the latest ranking list. That was because of his run to the quarter finals in Atlanta last week, though no top 80 ranked players were beaten before he lost to Alex de Minaur. Mannarino has also reached hard court quarter finals in Dallas and Delray Beach and a semi-final on grass in the Netherlands. March to May was a miserable time for the Frenchman with nine losses in ten matches. Mannarino had an easy straight sets win over wild card Bradley Klahn in the first round. This is a lot tougher and Dimitrov can be backed to get the victory.
