The final match of week two in the 2024 Currie Cup will see the Griffons and Blue Bulls clash at the Down Touch Investments Stadium in Welkom. The hosts are currently bottom of Pool A while the visitors are in second place. 

The Griffons ended last season bottom of the Currie Cup standings, and based on their performance in week one, they seem likely to struggle this year as well. 

Last week they were taken to pieces by the defending champions Free State Cheetahs by a whopping 82-20 scoreline. The Griffons were the only side in the competition that failed to earn a single point over opening weekend. 

Across the entirety of the 2023 campaign, the team from Welkom managed just a single victory and ended the season with only 10 points and a points difference of -306. Notably though, that solitary win came against this opponent at this venue. 

Meanwhile, the Blue Bulls made an impressive start to the 2024 domestic season, as they headed down to the Western Cape and came away with a 30-25 win against Western Province. 

Three tries were scored by the Bulls meaning they missed out on a bonus point but their performance would have been seen as a promising one to kick off the competition. Another victory here will give them huge momentum before a home stand over the next two weeks. 

The Bulls won four of their seven away games last season and have beaten this opponent in three of their last four meetings. As a result, the visitors are massive favourites heading into this fixture.
