World number 97 Greet Minnen will take on wildcard Katrina Scott in the final round of qualifiers at the US Open on Saturday. The winner of this match will go on to face Mirra Andreeva in the first round of the competition. Minnen came into this competition following a final appearance at the Kozerki 125 event a couple of weeks ago. With that result, she managed to bring her world ranking inside the top 100 for the first time this year. The Belgian began the year with back-to-back ITF titles on the hard court in Sunderland and Porto and has made six final appearances in total this year. Of those, two were on the clay, while the other four were on the hard surface. Minnen beat Zeynep Sonmez and Sinja Kraus, both in three sets in the first and second qualifiers, respectively. While she has enjoyed a solid season on the ITF circuit, Minnen has only won one main draw match in a WTA event this year. That win was on the grass in the Netherlands. 

Meanwhile, Katrina Scott is in desperate need of a good performance here at the US Open. After poor showings on the clay and grass, her return to the hard court has not gone well. She comes into this competition following two consecutive first-round defeats at the Barranquilla 125 and W100 Granby tournaments. The American’s best performance of the season came back in April on the clay when she reached the quarter-final in Florida. That was also the only time this season that Scott has reached the third round of any competition. Her record this year stands at a 9-17 and 2-6 on the hard surface. Scott overcame Natalija Stevanovic in the first round after the Serbian retired hurt. She then beat Elvina Kalieva in straight sets in round two. The bookmakers make her out to be a 3/1 underdog in this one.
