Georgia vs Portugal Prediction & Betting Tips - Rugby World Cup
by Devesh Jaganath | in Rugby World Cup Predictions
Georgia and Portugal will be hoping to secure their first points of the 2023 Rugby World Cup when they face off in the early kickoff on Saturday afternoon. Both sides have only played one match each and are at the bottom of Pool C. Georgia come into this match following a disappointing 35-15 loss to Australia. While they did lose the match, it does say something about the Georgians that onlookers were actually disappointed by their performance, despite facing a tier-one side. They won the Rugby European Championship against this opponent earlier this year and conceded only one loss in their last four leading up to the World Cup. Along with Fiji, Georgia are among the best of the tier-two nations and would have had this down as a a match they should win in this group. While they may not go on to qualify from this group, a solid win here will put them in the rearview mirror of the bigger sides in the group, which could make the final two matches very interesting. In 25 previous meetings, Georgia have won 18 and are the clear favourites in this one.
Meanwhile, Portugal were beaten 28-8 by Wales in their first match of the competition, but like several matches last weekend, the final scoreline did not tell the full story. They were wholehearted in their effort and put their bodies on the line for absolutely everything. Unfortunately, though, it was not enough to stop the superior Welsh side, who pulled away in the second half. Portugal will know that this is their best chance of taking any points from this World Cup and are likely to treat this match as their very own World Cup final. Os Lobos were unbeaten in four matches in the lead-up to this competition, though it is worth noting those wins came over the USA, Kenya, and Hong Kong, who are ranked below them. They would love nothing better than to get their revenge over this opponent, who beat them in the European Rugby Championship this year, but it would be a big upset if they managed it.
