Garbiñe Muguruza vs Elise Mertens Prediction & Betting Tips - WTA Dubai Tennis Championships

Garbine Muguruza is having a good 2021 and is through to the semi-final. The Spaniard is seeded ninth here and takes on Elise Mertens who is one place below her in the seedings. It's been a week of shocks and these two players are the only seeds to make it to the last four. The winner of this match faces either Jil Tiechmann or Barbora Krejickova. Muguruza is the fifth ranked player in terms of points earned this calendar year and has won 17 matches. more than any other player. Last week she reached the final of the Qatar Total Open losing to Petra Kvitova. That was her second final of the year having also reached the Yarra Valley Classic final, losing to Ashleigh Barty. Muguruza made it to the last sixteen of the Australian Open. This week has seen her in great form and in the last two rounds has beaten Iga Swiatek and Aryna Sabalenka, both who have won tournaments this year.

Now she takes on Elise Mertens but that didn't look likely at one stage. The Belgian was trailing against unseeded Jessica Pegula but fought back to win in three sets. Mertens is biddding to win her second title of the year having won the Gippsland Trophy in Australia. That was followed by a run to the last sixteen of the Australian Open before losing to Karolina Muchova. This is her first tournament since that Grand Slam. She's made it to the last four without facing a top seed but also went to three sets in the first round after dropping the first set to Viktoriya Tomova. Muguruza won their one previous meeting, back at the 2016 US Open. The Spaniard is in top form though and can get another win over her opponent.
