Gael Monfils vs Matteo Berrettini Prediction & Betting Tips - ATP Australian Open

Gael Monfils bids to reach only his third Grand Slam semi-final. The 17th seed has a tough task against seventh seeded Matteo Berrettini in this Australian Open quarter final. 2021 was a poor year for Monfils dropping from 11th to 21st by the end of it. He was 20th at the start of this tournament but up to 16th in the live rankings. Beating Berrettini would see him go up another three places. Monfils has already won one tournament this year. He won the first event held in Adelaide beating Karen Khachanov in the final. No sets were lost and he only dropped 18 games in five matches. He lost to Thiago Monteiro in his first match in the second Adelaide tournament. It was one set all and he then retired early in the second set. Monfils first played the Australian Open in 2005 but this is only his second quarter final appearance, the other being six years ago. He's won four matches in this tournament and without dropping a set. His best win was in the third round, when beating Cristian Garin. The fourth round saw him defeat Miomir Kecmanovic 7-5 7-6 6-3.

Matteo Berrettini is up to sixth in the live rankings. If he were to beat Monfils and Nadal loses to Shapovalov, the Italian will go fifth. Berrettini is in his fourth Grand Slam quarter final in a row. His run began with a last eight appearance in Paris, then the final at Wimbledon and another quarter final in New York. On each occasion, he was beaten by Novak Djokovic, that won't happen in Melbourne. Berrettini reached the fourth round here last year but then had to withdraw due to injury. His only event this year has been the ATP Cup, where he lost two of his three matches. Better form has been shown in Melbourne with wins over Brandon Nakashima (after losing the first set), Stefan Koslov (in four sets) and then a titanic five-setter against Carlos Alcarez, after winning the first two sets. The fourth round saw him beat 19th seeded Pablo Carreno Busta in straight sets. Back him to get the win  here.
