Lorenzo Musetti is seeded 30th at Roland Garros and takes on unseeded Gael Monfils in round two. For the winner of this match there's a third round tie with either unseeded Roberto Carballes Baena or the top seed Novak Djokovic. Musetti is the world number 30 but a place lower in the live rankings. He's had a disappointing ATP Tour clay court season to date but has reached two Challenger Tour finals in recent weeks. He'll hope to transfer that form to the main tour and got off to a good start here. Round one of this outdoor clay court tournament saw him get a straight sets win over unseeded Daniel Elahi Galan  Musetti has a good record in this Grand Slam and has reached round four (the last 16) twice in the past three years, including 2023.

Gael Monfils is approaching the end of his career as he turns 38 in September. He's up to 34th in the live rankings after beating Thiago Seyboth Wild in the first round. He won that match in four sets, losing the second played. He's only had one previous match against Musetti and won that three years ago but it was played on a hard court. His form on clay this year has not been very consistent at all. In four tournaments he only won two matches and been beaten in the last three. Two of those losses were to players ranked below him. At Roland Garros, Monfils reached the last four in 2008 and quarter-finals in 2011 and 2014. Recent years have not been so successful though and he hasn't made it past round two since 2019.
